How long does my hair need to be?

Hair needs to be about a quarter of an inch for best results. This is equal to about 2-2.5 weeks of growth after shaving and 4 weeks after a previous wax.

How can I prepare for my waxing service?

Come to your appointment with clean skin and in loose comfortable clothing if possible. Especially for brazilian waxing. It’s also a good idea to gently exfoliate the area the evening before your waxing service using either a gentle loofah or an exfoliating scrub. Avoid applying any harsh or perfumed lotions near the area to be waxed. Also, some people find it helpful to take an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen about half an hour before the service. This can help to ease some discomfort and any swelling associated with waxing.

How long should I wait in between waxings?

The optimal time for your next wax is 4-6 weeks after the previous service. This allows for the proper amount of growth and minimal time for the follicle to take a firm grip on the hair. Hair grows in phases and waiting the minimum of 4 weeks is important to ensure we are getting all stages of hair growth while coming in before 6 weeks helps to ease the discomfort of a stubbornly rooted follicle. Eventually, with time you will notice the waxing process becomes much easier.

How much is this going to hurt?

While no wax service is ever 100% pain free I work hard to ensure that you have the most comfortable experience possible. There are so many variables in waxing (hair type, density, skin sensitivity, pain tolerance, etc..) that it’s hard to say what your experience will be. But what I can tell you is this: Your first session will usually be the worst but if you continue to wax every 4-6 weeks, your sessions will become much easier over time. Almost everyone who comes back in 4 weeks is amazed at how much easier their second session is! That’s why I always recommend new clients who are serious about waxing come in for that second appointment. It will make all the difference.

What kind of wax do you use?

We use an organic soy based wax and a liquid azulene wax, which acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory. Azulene is a natural substance formed by steam distilling chamomile, yarrow and blue tansy oil. In addition to it’s anti-inflammatory effects it also supplies the renewal properties of antioxidants. I have tried many waxes and I find these gentle italian formula’s to be superior for both sensitive skin and stubborn coarse hair.

What should I do for post-care?

It is normal to have a little redness or bumpiness after your waxing service. This can last anywhere from an hour to a few hours after your session. I use an all natural post wax product containing calendula, licorice root, chamomile and aloe vera. In some cases it can be helpful to apply an OTC hydrocortisone to the area to relieve any itchiness. After your wax it is recommended that you stay out of any standing water (bathing, swimming, etc), refrain from tanning and vigorous exercise for 24 hours. It’s ok to shower in lukewarm to cool water. Simply put, be kind to your skin and give it a chance to calm down. I’m here to guide you through this process and will be happy to answer any of your questions.

What is the best way to make an appt?

The easiest and quickest way is to send a Text Message with the service, day and time frame requesting along with your name. Often I am in with a client and can return text messages within a very short period. You may also request an appt by calling 248.602.3339 or by email: amanda@greenleafwaxingstudio.com

When is the best time to come back for the next brazilian wax?

4-6 weeks is the optimal time frame.
